Voices in the Wind: A Tale from Mount Sorg

Voices in the Wind: A Tale from Mount Sorg

Far away, beyond the wide oceans and high clouds, stands a tall and silent mountain called Mount Sorg. It’s not the biggest mountain in the world, nor the coldest, but it is the most mysterious. Why? Because of its trees.

They are called the Whispering Pines — tall, silver-green trees that cover the mountain like a giant green blanket. These pines are unlike any others. When the wind blows, they don’t just rustle and sway. They whisper.

But what do they whisper? And why?

That’s the secret many have tried to discover. And this is the story of a little girl named Lina, who did.

The Girl Who Heard the Forest

Lina lived in the quiet village of Bristlewood, right at the foot of Mount Sorg. From her window, she could see the peak hiding behind clouds. The villagers told stories about the pines — some said they whispered old songs, others claimed they told the future.

But no one had ever gone high enough to know for sure.

Except Lina’s grandmother.

“Long ago,” her grandma would say, “I heard them. They spoke to me. But I was too scared to listen.”

Lina wasn’t scared. She was curious.

So one morning, before the sun was fully up, she packed a warm coat, some bread, a little bottle of honey, and her grandma’s silver compass. She left a note and tiptoed into the forest.

Climbing Into Whispers

As Lina climbed the mountain, the trees around her grew taller and older. Their trunks were wide, their branches long and soft. They didn’t creak or groan like normal trees.

They whispered.

At first, it sounded like the wind playing tricks.

Hooosh... shaaa... come closer...

Lina stopped. “Did someone say something?”

But no one was there. Just pines.

As she climbed higher, the whispers became clearer.

Turn left... mind the roots... the path is near...

The trees weren’t just making sounds — they were talking.

Lina followed their voices.

The Hidden Circle

Deep in the forest, Lina found a hidden circle of the oldest pines. Their bark was silver, and their needles glowed faintly in the shadowy light. Inside the circle was a smooth stone table and a tiny pool of water as still as glass.

The whispers stopped.

And then, a voice — soft and kind — filled the air.

“Welcome, Listener.”

Lina’s eyes widened. “Who… who are you?”

“We are the Pines of Sorg,” said the voice. “We remember everything. Every bird’s song, every footstep, every word ever spoken on this mountain. And you… you are the first child brave enough to listen in a hundred years.”

Lina sat beside the stone table. “Why do you whisper?”

“To guide. To warn. To share the forgotten stories of the world.”

“Can you tell me one?” Lina asked.

The Story of the Storm

The Pines told her a tale of a time when a great storm tried to destroy Mount Sorg. Lightning fell like fire, and the winds roared like angry giants. The villagers below were scared.

But the Pines stood strong. Their roots held the mountain in place. They whispered to the rocks, the rivers, and the clouds — calming the skies and saving the land.

Since then, they’ve whispered to anyone who dared to listen. But most people never do.

A Promise and a Gift

“You have a kind heart,” said the Pines. “Will you carry our stories to others? Will you help them listen?”

Lina nodded. “I promise.”

With that, a tiny pinecone floated down and landed in her palm. It shimmered with soft silver light.

“When you need to remember, hold this,” they said. “We will always whisper to you.”

Back to Bristlewood

Lina returned home just before sunset. Her grandmother was waiting at the door — smiling.

“You heard them, didn’t you?”

Lina nodded and hugged her tight.

From that day on, Lina would sit by the village children and share the stories of the Pines — tales of storms, kindness, bravery, and the magic of listening.

And sometimes, when the wind blew just right, everyone could hear the soft whisper of the trees.

What Can We Learn?

  • Nature has stories. Trees, rivers, and mountains have seen more than we can imagine.
  • Listening is powerful. When we stop and pay attention, we learn more than we ever thought possible.
  • Kindness and bravery can open doors. Just like Lina, even the smallest among us can discover the greatest secrets.
