The Forgotten Sons of Krishna – A Story Few Remember

When we think of Lord Krishna, we imagine a charming boy playing the flute in Vrindavan, a wise prince in the Mahabharata, or the great speaker of the Bhagavad Gita. But did you know that Krishna was also a father—to many children?
Among his many sons, some became famous, while others are hardly remembered. Today, we will explore the story of Krishna’s forgotten sons—their lives, their fate, and why they quietly disappeared from the pages of history.
Krishna – The King of Dwarka and a Loving Father
After the Mahabharata war, Krishna ruled over Dwarka, a beautiful golden city by the sea. As a king, he had many responsibilities—leading people, solving problems, and spreading peace.
Krishna had eight chief queens, including Rukmini, Satyabhama, Jambavati, and others. With them, he had many sons—more than a hundred! But unlike Krishna, many of his sons are barely mentioned in stories today.
Let’s meet a few of these lesser-known sons.
1. Pradyumna – The Famous Yet Forgotten Son
Among Krishna’s sons, Pradyumna, the son of Rukmini, is better known. He looked just like Krishna and was very brave. He was kidnapped as a baby by a demon but later returned and became a great warrior.
Pradyumna fought in many battles and had a son named Aniruddha. However, even though he was Krishna’s son, his name is not as popular as Krishna’s or Arjuna’s.
2. Samba – The Mischievous Son
Samba was the son of Krishna and Jambavati. He was bold and clever—but sometimes, a little too playful.
One day, Samba played a prank on the sages by pretending to be a pregnant woman and asking them who the father of the child was. The sages, feeling disrespected, cursed him that he would give birth to a club (mace) that would destroy his entire race—the Yadavas.
This may sound strange, but it came true. Years later, that very club caused a fight between Krishna’s people, leading to the end of the Yadava clan. Samba’s joke became a sad turning point in history.
3. Other Sons – Names Lost in Time
Besides Pradyumna and Samba, Krishna had many other sons, like:
- Charudeshna
- Bhanu
- Gada
- Sudeshna
- Vasushena
- Rishabha
Many of them were good warriors and helped Krishna in battles. But after Krishna left the world, most of his sons and people also disappeared in the destruction of Dwarka.
Their names are mentioned briefly in scriptures, but their stories are not told as often as those of Rama, Arjuna, or Bhima.
What Happened to Krishna’s Sons?
The end of Krishna’s story is a little sad. After the Mahabharata war, the Yadavas (Krishna’s clan) started fighting among themselves. One day, while they were on the seashore, a quarrel turned into a big fight.
Remember the club created by Samba’s prank? Pieces of that club became iron rods, which the Yadavas used to fight each other. In that tragic event, many of Krishna’s sons died, and the mighty Yadava clan was wiped out.
Even Krishna’s own end came quietly, when a hunter mistakenly shot him in the forest. After his departure, Dwarka sank into the sea, and his sons’ stories were mostly forgotten.
Why We Should Remember Them
Even though Krishna’s sons are not as famous as other characters, they teach us important lessons:
- Fame doesn’t last forever, but good actions do.
- Even the greatest families can fall if there is pride and anger.
- Each person, no matter how small their role, is part of the big story of life.
Just like stars in the sky, Krishna’s sons shone for a time, and though their light faded, their place in the universe of stories remains.
Hidden Stars in Krishna’s Sky
Lord Krishna’s sons may not be known to all, but they were brave, bold, and sometimes even funny or mischievous. Their tales may be short, but they are filled with drama, emotions, and meaning.
In every epic, there are main characters—but there are also hidden heroes, waiting to be remembered. Krishna’s forgotten sons are like those—quiet pages of history that still whisper stories of love, duty, and destiny.
